Hi all,
Well, it seems that flextalk, my synthesizer of choice spells too much with jaws 6. I had to read and choose I agree to the license before I installed windows updates. I think it may have done it, because a dialogue box came up and said updates are ready for your computer, and all along, I thought it was hp's updates. When I had that hp organize and hp updates, i think it was hiding windows updates from the system tray. When I uninstalled norton security center, the windows alerts appeared immediately in the system tray. When I was trying to read microsofts license aggreement, flextalk started spelling its way through the whole thing. frustrated, I changed my synthesizer to eloquence, and it doesn't do all thatspelling. And as for the jaws lag when I typed, guess what? it seems to be a flextalk issue, because when I started typing in an edit field with eloquence, there's no lag what soever. Hmmm, weird? I kind of thought jaws seemed to be responding a bit better when I switched to eloquence. I like keithbell and kerry watsons voices with flextalk better than I like eloquence voices, but jaws seems to behave better with xp when using eloquence. Oh well, guess at some point, I will hafve to change my default synthe to eloquence. I can't beliefve this, I've been using flextalk for years. Reed is the default voice for eloquence. I think he's the default for the jaws cursor too, but his voice is lower. Eloquence just goes up and down a bit for me, but if jaws works better with it, I guess it's better I use it as much as possible. And, although Norton security is supposed to be off my computer, it's still listed in add/remove. It's not in the main control panel anymore, or in the system tray, or on the desktop, so why is it still in add/remove programs? I don't think I should try and install avg right now at this time.

Go down to it in add/remove,and remove it again. When XP sees that it's already gone, it'll offer to take it out of add/remove. As for the whole security center messages popping up, I just went into administrative tools, services, and disabled security center. As far as your Flextalk isue, this would make perfect sense, as Eloquence is optimized better for XP than Flex is. In fact, Flex was completed before XP was in the works, so therefore it is adviseable to switch over completely.

kragiel, I have tried several times to remove the norton security from add/remove, it just lands back on it and says nothing about removing it.

I really think that you need nauton.
It might only take care of anty virus, but you shood have some virus protection on your computer.
As far as swiching voices is conserned, have a look at naturalvoices.com, there pretty pricey...
But they are good.
BEN.

thanks, I uninstalled norton because it seemed to be pushing my computer resources, but I have avg antivirus now, which is free. I would have had to pay symantec after a couple of months. I hate programs where you not only have to pay to buy them, but you have to pay a years subscription to keep the software updated.
